Hi All,just a quick question to all experienced cruisers.I have planned to stop work in december to go cruising in April 2010.Problem is i have only a day skippers ticket with limited sailing experience. The plan is to do as much sailing as possible from January to April on my boat together with my wife. Then i will sit the coastal skippers exam.Q-Is this sufficient time to learn properly?.I don't want to get into a situation where i keep putting it off or i will never get going.

Where are you located? Important to know as some countries require certain qualifications before you can go "foreign".

Get in as much logged sailing time as possible - with overnighters and longer passages like to East London & back.

Get your required quals and go!

For East Africa See:

Seerose

Cruising Connections (see books by Tony Herrick)

Cruising Wiki

Good luck. GO!

You have lived to this point in your life learning new information. Learning to apply new info with old knowledge to new challenges. There is no real reason to think you are going to become suddenly stupid. You will do fine. Will you be better at it in a year, 2 years, or 5 years down the road, absolutely.

Most of the folks on this board, about 98.5% are very supportive and have a positive slant. That 1.5% of negativity will have you sit at home until you are familiar with all things sailing.

What is the worst that can happen to you.............................................

Enjoy yourself.
