Default This is nice

A recent visit to the boat show in St Petersburg delivered the usual fare of Jenneaus, bennies and Hunters, the oddities such as the Marlow 47, some classics such as the big Shannons and a variety of catamarans fit to satisfy most.

The boat which most impressed us was the Catalina 385. It's big for a 38, has all the bits that ageing sailors can want and it presents as a 'real' sailboat.

We are casually looking for a new boat and have yet to determine whether we will cross oceans, sail coastally; or whether we will spend time in the Carib or the PNW.

But, just for fun, here's a link to our latest low maintenance infatuation:

A bit too much vinyl internally for my tastes, mainly because it tends to exhale for ages and I have a sensitivity to chemicals, which is why I've always preferred to rent really old places.

Looks sweet though and I'm sure she would sail well.

An auntie had a house which was a show home, they owned a service station and everyone ate and 'lived' in the diner.
Since then I cannot relax in a 'brand new' room.
I repair whitegoods and feel very uncomfortable in a new renovated kitchen.
I would be nice, but.....

To me, there is little difference between a new car and a new boat. It doesn't follow that because it is new it can't be used for its intended purpose. I'm not a marina sort of bloke and see a new boat as having the benefits of good materials, design and functionality...but none of the disadvantages of a boat which soaks up fixing-time at the expense of sailing time.
Having said that I have never owned a new boat (yet) and my current boat is an ex ocean racer from 1963.

What is a ballpark price on buying a new Catalina 385? Looks line a nice boat!

Merry Christmas y'all!
