As if it weren't easy enough to just yahoo it...I prefer other people's opinions. If anyone has read my other thread they'd know that I wish to in the near future own a ship (which I am looking there for advice on how to find, inspect, and buy a ship) and the other issue is proper education.

Proper may be the wrong word, I have friends who blue-water sailed all the time before moving to the wretched desert we're all in now - though we can still go to lakes and sail boats there ... that's one form of experience.

What are some good schools, maybe ones where the few of us could enroll together and be schooled in handling larger vessels since I am looking for a ship that should need a crew of 7-12 at most...

I'm sure there are schools but I'd rather be referred to one than find them on the internet and have no better knowledge of them than their advertisement.

When it comes to "crewed charters" do you feel this is the best route? And if so - what are good prices for them? Rather than the asking price I may find by the highest paying advertiser on some search engine you know?

Thanks

I have found the Moorings to be very fairly priced for charter boats. With a small group of people and a few that know what they are doing, it is a cost effective way to learn how to sail.
