I've just posted some new updates on the
cruising wiki for Fiji, with an update as to yacht re-entry procedures in Fiji if returning in less than 9 months, as well as a very important change in vessel movement within Fiji from Port of Entry to Port of Entry.
For the vessel movement, even if you do not intend to stop at any destination between ports (ie; Savusavu to Lautoka), you must still clear before departing your Port of Entry, and also re-clear into the next Port of Entry.
A fine of F$5000 will be levied. Upon strictly the customs official's discretion, they can suspend a portion of the fine, to be no less than 25% (F$1250) at the first offense, 50% (F$2500), second offense, etc..
In addition, the Blue Water Cruising Rally had a very poor reception at Cuvu Harbour (the Shangri-La Fijian Resort) on the west coast of Viti Levu. It appears as if there was a charge of F$40 assessed by 'someone' at the hotel upon the yachts for facilities usage, even if the usage was to purchase a meal at their restaurant or visit their handicraft shops. As of this writing, no individual has been located who is willing to be responsible for the decision.
(PS-You get extra bonus points and a nod of approval if you pronounce 'Cuvu' as
thuvu and 'Nadi' as
nandee from Fijians!).
