I am looking at making this journey and would like some advice I have read some on the net, I need four lines 1" by 125' long four handlers 250.00 for 50' or less plus a 800. deposit? do you get that back?

How much do you actually have to motor? 51 miles but some of it looks sailable. Where do I get fuel I hear it's cheap in Mexico but cheaper in Venazuela... I will be a a shoe string budget. How long is the trip? a ballpark not counting stops...

I may name the boat "Leap of Faith"

. Thank you for any advice

Tad

Hi Tad,

To transit Panama Canal costs about $650 US, you can rent lines, for line handlers boaties help each other through or use locals @ $100 each. Why go all the way to Venezuala for cheap fuel? You buy fuel wherever to happen to be and need fuel!!

You have to motor through the canal at minimun 6 knots, no sailing ( no wind ).

There is some info in the Cruising Wiki - HERE.

The section on the canal needs more information so anyone who can contribute and help the page grow PLEASE add what you can.
