Hi, could you anyone give me some advices about crossing from Canary i. to Azores in March. We need to get our catamaran Lagoon 42 to get there. I know it is against the current and also against the prevailing northerlies. I ll apreciate any advise or your own experience about this crossing. Thanx martin

Hi Martin,

Depending when you leave in March and Depending if there is a early summer (or a late winter)

In the Azores the Winter prevailing winds are Westerlies changing from SW to NW - While the Summer winds are Easterlies changing from NE to SE

So, say you leave from Los Palmas on Gran Canaria on a hdg of 318 to Ponto Delgado on Sao Miguel a 1,000 miles away - if there are still westerlies you may be able to sail for part of the day.

if the summer winds are early you will probably have a good sail. Therefore the later you can leave the better - how about May?
