The 9 meter catamaran "Spia Dimonis" with solo skipper Georges Dimur capsized near Tubuai Island, French Polynesia. Georges was sailing from Tahiti to Raivavae and was reported overdue. The capsized hull was spotted by pilots of Air Tahiti Jan. 10 about 14:30 about 6 miles west of the reef of Tubuai. Three local fishing boats and the boat of the gendarmerie reached the hull about 17:00. Nobody on board. Strong tradewinds, rough seas. There was an inscription on the hull indicating the skipper attempting to reach Tubuai by dinghy - 30 miles. Air searches up to this morning Jan 12 have found no traces. Too bad Georges did not elect to stay with his catamaran. Sources: local on the island of Tubuai and "La Depeche de Tahiti" Jan 12, 2011. Don Travers - papadon
