No, he didn't. Wilkinson just finished off what the whole team started by turning pressure into points. Not that he played badly but to single him out is unfair when he's only part of a team completely written-off by many before the competitition started and during its early stages.

Not exactly a pretty performance but, ugly as some might say it was, effective and good enough to get us into the final of the RWC (again!). Who'd have thought it? Another week of press hype and a second English invasion of Paris in as many weeks!

There is, of course, also the small matter of the outcome of the other semi which could well produce yet another surprise in a competition alread full of surprises!

Good luck South Africa; good luck Argentina! We'll see one of you in Paris next week!

Well done the Boks !! Very well done the Pumas !

It's a pity that France are not playing in the final as host nation. It would have provided entertaining rugby.

No surprises other than the scoreline this time around; well done South Africa! Lets hope that England can do better next week

Until then, then!

Not expecting ZA to provide any entertainment then? You can always watch the French demolish what's left of Argentina in the 3/4 play-off - not a game that anyone wants to play but France will be desperate to prove that it was a fluke the last time around. In England's case, of course, it's a similar motivation but for the last four "flukes"!!!!

Whatever happens now my pals and I are all having heart check-ups to make sure that we're fit to watch the final!

Going into the final :-

The Boks have scored 33 tries kicked 25 conversions, put over 16 penalties all in an entertaining fashion.

France to date have scored 26 tries kicked 18 conversions, put over 17 penalties all in an entertaining fashion.

On the above stats alone a final with The Boks and the Frogs would provide real entertaining rugby.

Absolutely .... looking forward to the eating thereof!

No idea what England's overall stats are or how many points SA have conceded but who cares? This is about winning the biggest tournament in rugby and, whether South Africa came up against France, New Zealand, Australia or New Zealand in the final, only the wildest or most desperate of coaches would see open, expansive rugby as the prefered starting tactic. Other that is than Henry who oversaw the development of the best rugby playing squad in the world but whose chosen best team failed against an inspired French outfit on the day. I can only wonder what NZ's stats were going into that game!

I suppose that it all comes down to what you consider entertaining. If it's open free flowing rugby you want, you need leaky defences or some means of favouring the attacking side in terms of toleration of knock-ons, forward passes, not straights, hands in, not binding and the numerous variants on obstruction which are now commonplace in the televised version of our game.

If you want a tense confrontation between two evenly matched and evenly favoured sides, all ya gotta do is listen to White this morning - there's no doubt that this game is going to be anything but enormous for both sides - Smit is already talking about what it would mean for the Rainbow Nation and good on him for that

If you want to know who the best team actually is, of course, you have to go to a the rolling world ranking system and there's little doubt who the current holders would be. If you want pure adrenalin and the stuff of which heart attacks are made you need a head-to-head in the biggest competition for the best team game that there's ever been.

Roll on Saturday when, whatever the result, the game will be all the better for this the very best RWC so far - unless, of course, you're one of the bigger islands in Oceania who'll have to wait another four years for that!

Boy, did I get this one wrong! What a game for a play-off; what an appetiser for tonight's final!

You're absolutely right not to attempt a forecast. Form, ability and potential now mean absolutely nothing and the only certainty is that the winners will have earned the title of World Champions for the next four years for a second time.

Let's hope that the tension doesn't ruin the game and that the referee has a good one!

Doctor says I'm probably OK to this last game of an abasolutely fantastic RWC but if it goes to extra time ... !

.... who knows. Hope to see your final report tomorrow. See ya

I wonder if England realise yet that there was more to the final than up-n-under kicks.

Springboks 15, England 6

Well done the BOK'S!

Well done South Africa; a well deserved second four years as World Champions.

Matfield can now rightly claim to be the best second row in the world, the defence was only breached seriously once, Percy's kicking is perfection and Steyn's amazing. Pity that Habana didn't see anything of the ball until he decided to try and play scrum half.

Not sure which game Lighthouse was watching, of course, but, sad as it may be, I suppose that you could say that, at least, we had the ball to kick; or could it have been that you just kicked it to us!

Also not too bad a swan song for many of the "older" English players with just the hint of a more youthful glimmer of light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Let's hope that your ZA Rugby Union now gets it right with White's successor and manages to get the sort of support given to Mbeki when he was clearly so desperate to get the cup in his hands - who did he play for?

All in all a great RWC and a great advert for our game; can't wait until the next time!
