Cruising China And The World's Fair 2010 Shanghai

We've contemplated what it would take to get there by boat during the fair. Probably a bureaucratic nightmare--but it would be pretty cool to visit China via private yacht.

Anyone managed to visit China via private yacht? Anyone looking into a visit at this time?

Unfortunately, The timing of the Expo coincides precisely with the Typhoon season - 2008 for example saw close to 30 tropical cyclones - Shanghai was targeted several times - many lives lost. The task of just getting to Shanghai from any direction will mean traversing the North West Pacific or the South China Sea, and whilst there are a few good Typhoon shelters along the way, the odds are, that a cruising yacht will run into severe weather.

Yes, in recent years a small number of yachts visited Eastern Chinese Ports - SYVellamo being just one of the intrepid explorers, we also have many yachts in Hong Kong and in the South China Sea where it is possible to find shelter quickly - and where severe weather forecasts are easily picked up.
