I installed a Nexus instrument system on my boat in 2001. It held up reasonably well but I have been hard on a couple of components and recently found I have to make some replacements. Unfortunately, this manufacturer has introduced a new line - NX2 which parts are not compatible with the older system, and today I found that I was purchasing the LAST masthead instrument board. Is it normal for instrument systems to become unrepairably obsolete in 6 or 7 years, or is this just a case of poor customer support? I would say to anyone considering Nexus instruments at this time that they should beware of short product cycle time with this company. Spare parts may not be available long before you are ready to replace your entire instrument system...

I am outfitting my boat for cruising in the next 4 years. Instrumentation reminds me of computers 10 years ago when it was obsolete before you got it turned on. My dock mate took a lightning strike on his 5 year old Raymarine equipment and had to upgrade because some of the old equipment was upgraded and would not work with the older gear. He ended up upgrading his whole system. I am afraid yours is a common problem.
