Puerto La Cruz was never a favorite stop for us because, IMO, it was lawless. More thefts occurred here than anyplace else we were aware of in Venezuela. A shame, because the yacht services here were excellent many years ago, though in the past decade Venezuela has been avoided by many cruising yachts. Here's the sad report as I received it, with some links.
"Pierre Roelens and his wife Maria, owners of PR Yacht Services, the boatyard at Marina Bahia Redonda, were shot and killed this morning. They had been to the bank and were followed to the boatyard gate where several bullets were fired into the windscreen of their car. Nothing was taken and the shooter(s) escaped. Of all the good people who help so many Venezuelans and visiting cruisers, these were the worst ones to kill."
