Replanking:
<font face="Book Antiqua"></font id="Book Antiqua"><font size="6"></font id="size6"><font color="navy"></font id="navy">
Hi all and anyone. We are new to this site but have found it helpful and informative. I know not if this is the correct forum to post this sort of message but we've found so little info elsewhere on finding a South American or Carribean location to have a complete replank done on our boat. We've heard murmurs of low prices for lumber and labor in those southern climes but have had no luck locating a site. Would greatly appreciate info from anyone that could enlighten us to sightings of such a rare bird. Attached are links to our 65' Colin Archer.

fu RASTA mon,
As you already know - that's a big job!
There are still a lot of wooden boats sailing around down here in the Caribbean and most owners take their boats to Venezeuela for major re-planking.
Let me know and I'll ask around if you want more info.
Good luck.
Kirk

Hi Furasta,
I know of a number of yachts that have had woodwork done at the boatyard at Porto de Cabedelo in Brazil. (just south of Recife). Ibelieve that there is a new "marina" about two miles upstream in the Canal de Velho, Cabedelo Nautico, run by an English person. The boatyard is at Jacare, about five miles upstream. I hav'nt an address for you, bet I am sure with an internet search you will find one. Another posibility could be Suriname, where I do have an address henri@sr.net Hope this helps.
Regards

Thanks Tony, sent an email to them, but am still having many probs nailing anything down outside of that one. Have found sites with marinas in S.A. and the Carribean but none with the facilities we require as yet. Plugging away.

Fu-Rasta-Mon,
I just ran into my friend, Capt Kees (the King of Happy Island) Stapel, who has been sailing his old wooden boat around here for decades.
Kees (pronounced "Case") recomends NAVIMCA BOAT YARD located in Cumana, Venezuela. The owner of the yard is Georgio Nerdy.
He wet on to say that his recent, six month haul-out there cost less than a thousand bucks.
Tell Georgio that Capt Case sent ya.
Good luck,
Kirk

Btw, found their site. Haven't as yet received any responses to my emails, but, will merely go there when our time is ripe. furastamon, aka, Jim
