Default Seiche in Ibiza?

Aboard Scarlet about two weeks ago in Santa Eulalia Marina in Ibiza, we were woken by the sound of rushing water and straining dock lines. In the usually placid marina we had water flowing about threee knots from the east, then suddenly three knots from the west. Back and forth for about an hour. Then suddenly strill. Amazing! I think it was an a seiche caused by an atmospheric disturbance—though the weather was not exceptional. Any ideas?

Hi Spencer,
'About two weeks ago' and 'being woken' doesn't give too much of a date and time, but I suggest possible seismic activity? The whole area of the Balearics and the Valencian coastline (and inland where I am) is an 'active' area.
Check www.ua.es/urs , and even if your Spanish is not too good, you should be able to look down the list of recent tremors and see if anything fits your time and date. (I had a quick look, and can't see anything straight away, but you will know more exactly when it was and where you were) I think you can change the web page to English, but don't expect a good translation.
ˇ Suerte !

If the above link doesn't work, search 'terremoto alicante' and you should get this web page offered to you.

The University iof Alicante shows some seismic nearby activity the day before (6/1 6 at 1600 GMT) but not at 6/17 0100 GMT when it ocurred. The mystery continues . . .
