Thailand
It is time to start seriously considering a return to my boat in Mexico. I have an unfinished project in Thailand, and my journalistic juices are flowing freely with the latest political developments; but, there is no single thing in my being which would allow me to tolerate living in an autocratic society.
The army has imposed martial law, has occupied and closed down several TV stations and is the nominal authority which oversees a virulent policy of internet censorship in Thailand.
Since the coup which we are being told isn't a coup (Just the army's imposition of martial law without any consultation with the elected government, and the associated cessation of press freedom), I am unable even to source travel advisories from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT-smart traveller).
Life is full of fun and surprises, but I would rather have the surprises afloat, than under the scrutiny of a military government.
