Default Help us Cleanup the Garbage???

Hello everyone,
I am a keen Environmentalist and, as I am sure many of you are, I am Horrified by the state of the oceans and litter etc....
maybe you would like to know about this opportunity I am trying to get in on.......
I would love your help and we could all get paid.
Regards Mike C
Have you got a Sail Boat?
Do you want $10,000 Can you share this to someone who has?
During August this year, The Ocean Cleanup will be crossing the Garbage Patch from Hawaii to California, with up to 50 boats in parallel. And you can be part of this historic event.
PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL Stella Diamant, our Mega-Expedition Co-ordinator for more information on +1 808 209 3521 or stella.diamant@theoceancleanup.com or on Skype stella. diamant. say 'MICHAEL ROBERT CUNNINGHAM REFERRED ME' and I get $500 which I will put to Conservation efforts, Hopefully helping on this very project.
TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN WE ARE OFFERING UP TO • USD 10,000 to boat owners (plus additional insurance coverage) • USD 3,500 to skippers for helping us gather data, and • USD 500 for any referrals leading to a boat signing up.

You know, I really wouldn't hype the money aspect of this. If you find people doing it, it is really nice that the money can help compensate for expected fuel use, etc, but that isn't why one would do it. Also--if they don't have to spend $500 on you, they'll have the $500 to spend on their conservation project. So, I suggest that any skipper who gets into this simply state nobody referred them -- keep the $500 in the project itself.

Thanks anyway for the alert--we actually just looked into this, for our *thing to do* this August. The word I got was that the boats going from California to the west were really needed as the northern part of the route was being covered (better) by the boats returning to the USA from the Transpac. So, if anyone is traveling east to west (perhaps going to HI?) this is an opportunity to help document the quantity of garbage.

We have decided against participating largely due to our concern that we won't be able to achieve the specific route required. That requirement is for the boat to travel east to west on a single latitude (with only minor variation, once you've chosen your latitude you must stick with it) for about 1200 nm. That's a big ticket and we're not entirely sure that we can achieve it as it is required. Since we have no intent of going to HI, we'd just be turning up and returning at a higher latitude to the USA and, well, it would be a bummer to spend more than a month (likely 5 weeks) doing the loop without achieving the goals of the project.

Good luck to other boaters undertaking this task.

Default I hope I can make a difference

Hello Redbopeep
I decide to Hype the money aspect, as the problem has been ongoing and people seem apathetic to the scale of litter we create and it ends up in the sea, 'The Ocean Cleanup' team have obviously put a lot of effort into trying to get people on board, and the team have decided that the only way is by offering Money for people to use their time & skills & boats.
I would have thought that they would easily fill their quota of Boats, but they have only 25 out of 50 boats signed up and I do not wish for them to miss their target.
I totally agree with you; 'if they don't have to spend $500 on you, they'll have the $500 to spend on their conservation project. So, I suggest that any skipper who gets into this simply state nobody referred them -- keep the $500 in the project itself.'
But what if I was truly able to make a difference in this world, and that money could help me achieve my goals? Sailing training, Able to quit my job and become a Voluntary researcher / data Analyst and then get a Job with The Ocean Cleanup or National Litter Campaigns....
by sharing these posts It may help them achieve their target......

Thanks for more info on the routes etc I hope someone is able to Join.
Happy Sailing.
Regards

I understand you are motivated by money and that you understand they need to get more boats. Got it. Best of luck in funding your lifestyle and I also hope that they achieve their 50 boat goal.

Good luck on your adventure. My city has miles of beaches and every square meter has 30 water bottle caps from health nuts carting bottled water. SeaBin from Australia is something this city needs to stop our contributions to the oceans. Cut off at the source
