Rugby (Union -- the only kind) is a very complex game with lots of rules. There are offside rules, ruck & maul rules, rules about the ball travelling forwards, rules about kicking out of bounds (depends on where you're standing), entering the ruck from the wrong side, hands on the ball (which change depending on who had it last and which way it was travelling), etc. It'd be too complicated to explain to you 'mericans.
Australian Rules Football is much easier, as it only has two rules. They are:
1. Kick the ball between the posts at the other end of the field.
2. No concealed weapons.
It's not every day you go to a football fight and a game breaks out.
