I finally made it to the Bimini Bahamas and then to Abacos for the season. Thanks for all the help.

Nice pic....don't cheat yourself by missing the Exumas. It is far prettier than Abaco...IMHO

Thanks, I have at least 1 1/2 years to cruise. Exumas is next year.

The preps for cruising took about 4 years. Reading this forum was a big help.

The crossing started by running aground in AngleFish Creek, North Key Largo Fl (charts are wrong) and we had a bad forcast. It was rough the first 50 miles but in the last 15 the winds came on the nose and really picked up speed. rough and wet. I had an auto pilot and a big motor to punch through the waves. I had been waiting for over 1 week to get a weather window and we took the best that we had and are glad we did.

Heading to the Berries and then to Sandy Point, Abacos. It should be a nice ride.

One week is not bad. I have seen many wait much longer to leave South Beach, and head east. Have fun, and please do write about the voyage when you have a chance.

If you see a power catamaran named Horizons anchored in Hope Town, stop by and say hello to our good friends Ann and Paul. They may be on a power boat, but they are avid sailors involved with the local sailing club.

Fuel is $5.00 per gallon, you say? When we were in the Baltic last summer, we paid up to $12.00 per gallon for diesel. For an economical power boat! Economical or not, it was quite the sticker shock!

Is that the northern entrance to Man of War Cay? If so then I have been there, and found it a wonderful anchorage. Thanks for the pics, and be safe......................AHHHHHHHH the memories

The pic of facing west from the Narrows on the North part of Man of War Cay. The sand may shift with every passing storm so the beach may not be as you remember.

i once stayed in a house on the abacos on the skinniest part of the island. front deck, the ocean, back deck, the whatever water that was. mid 80's. i was a runner then. ran around. hopetown was a disappointment. things were expensive. the beautiful stuff was free though! i wonder if they ever learned to charge for the sites!

Green Turtle Cay was nice. I stayed at the Bluff House Marina that would credit your slip towards meals (on edit, this ends around March 15 every year). Nice if you wanted to eat ashore for a while. Bluff House Marina is a little more livelier than Green Turtle Marina. It may change.

Nice little town way to many roosters for me. I was woken up in Man of War every morning with them and do not want to anchor in another town with them.

I am in Marsh Harbor now -

It is so crowded than it was in Nov. Starting peak season soon. Still places to anchor for me. Still the same problems and the paid internet - OII.net - is much worse. It took me over 1 hr to download these 4 photo's. This is the only town in the Abaco's with 24 hr poilice and their is no water police in the harbor. Everybody speeds. Here is one taken through my window -

As usual, I am anchored in 1 1/2 foot of water and, as usual, they come speeding by and about 2 a day break their props.

Marsh Harbor is a nice anchorage but has gotten quite crowded and far too busy. There is no respect for the 5 MPH speed limit and power boats will come so close to you, one or two times an hour, to make it very dangerous. I suggest fishing when in Harbors. Most boats only have out 1 anchor out and when a major wind shift happens they drag, all anchorages. I was in 2 feet of water and was in no danger of being dragged into. There is also a noise problem. Dogs are barking all night long and there is a noisy bird. I wish I had brought a dog whistle. A lot of the Cays have birds making noise to wake you up and they do not care.

Hopeing these fronts will calm down I have taken a slip at Bluff House Marina in Green turtle Cay for a month. Quite here and not so much traffic.

Tilloo Bay, very good holding. Sea plane on the west side, please stay away. Open somewhat to the North. Really nice shallow anchorage with a few homes around. -
