Hi everyone,

I'm a producer and cast member on an American travel show called Jet Set Zero. We're exploring the possibility of crewing a yacht this summer season as a part of our show and I was hoping to get a little advice on it. First, about the show: Jet Set Zero follows four young Americans who began 9 months ago with no money, working minimum wage jobs to see just how far they could get. Since then, we've ridden ostriches in Vietnam, seen the temples of Bangkok, braved starvation and homelessness in Tokyo, and survived riots in Seoul.

We have been living and working in Asia for 9 months now, and we're looking to transition to South America. Since a couple of us (myself included) have had sailing experience, and our show is about *adventure* travel, it would be natural to find berth on a ship heading out across the Pacific-- and I figure it could break the monotony of the voyage for fellow crewmen to know they'd be on TV.

Here are my questions:

1. We have a small crew, but the cast could be up to 7. Despite being TV personalities, we're damn hard workers-- but will it be possible to find room for 9 people if two aren't working (camera crew)?

2. How long is the voyage from, say, Fiji, to anywhere in South America?

3. Where should we look and who should we talk to?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Rob

Suggest you write up definite information plans etc.. in the "Crew looking for posit ions" forum, that is, only if your team meets the criteria set out as follows :-

"The FREE board for the use of amateur crew members looking for unpaid and non-paying positions on cruising yachts to assist with passages and/or in other times of need. This is NOT the facility to post messages if you are specifically looking for payment for your services (a cruiser may however offer you some remuneration) or if you are willing to pay for the privilege of "working" on a yacht. If you expect professional payment for your services (or are happy to pay for the ride), please use other (paid for) advertising facilities. "Commercial" posts will be removed. Thank you for your assistance and please report any abuse of these guidelines. NOTE: Older messages are deleted regularly.

POSTING TOPICS FOR CREW POSITIONS:

Give as much detail as possible - when available, for how long, where you can embark, your sailing experience (if any) and something about yourself that would prompt an owner/skipper to contact you"

Otherwise, you should be able to charter an ocean going catamaran . those over 38ft could take your nine. Here is just one such company in Fiji : Visit the Website

Suva, Fiji to Lima, Peru is 6,000 nautical miles, "as the crow flies." Add about 30% for sailing against wind and current, and it's a minimum of 7,800 nautical miles. It's not an easy sail going from West to East; I'd estimate with non-professional crew that a 45' multihull might do about 6 to 8 knots, (nautical miles per hour), which is about 40 to 54 days of sailing, non-stop.
