Hi there,

I've just got my first boat. A steel 30ft Van de Stadt. Am now doing it up ready to explore the Med' and further.

We (my wife, dog and myself) are in Almerimar, Spain. At the end of May we will be heading to Gibraltar to finish my Yachtmaster (don't let the qualification fool you.... I did a fastrack course and had zero sailing experience beforehand!).

Anyway, from all onboard La Perla Negra, I bid you farewell, for now.

Captain 'Mac' Sparrow (you'll never guess what my favourite films are!)

Mac, to your 1st Mate and the dog.

A steel 30ft Van de Stadt - great design !

Was it built in the Netherlands ? If so, where - by whom?

The boat was built in 1985 in Argentina(??).

We have bought it off its second owner.

It had a nice inventory with it and so far we are quite pleased with the deal. We haven't yet sailed her yet but have checked the rigging and sails etc and all seems well. A shakedown is due in a few days.

This looks like a quality forum and we hope to become regulars here, especially now I have bought a wifi booster aerial for my laptop.

The sun setting, the boat at anchor, the chicken on the bbq, a steady F3 - 4 predicted for the next week and chatting away with you guys....... bliss!

I'm off to the cooler....anyone for a cold one????

Capt Mac
