So I'm a free man! No, I didn't just get out of prison, my glorious post-college engineering job is getting outsourced to China. I'm taking my amazing 5-year engineering degree and...Traveling? Yeah, you wish you could too. Actually, most people reading this probably are traveling, so I'm the jealous one at the moment.
Anywho, I grew up Between Boston, Mass and Cape Cod, prettymuch on the water. I've sailed with friends a half dozen or so times, and absolutely love it. I'll be backpacking/hiking/hitchhiking/traveling around, simply beacuse I've got nothing better to do, so I've been thinking about Boats. Specifically, I've decided that I want to learn about sailing. Now, first, I'm in no hurry. I work hard, play hard, and love adventure. I'll be bumming around the Med in a few months, and I figure that should be a pretty good place to start my adventures of sailing (somehow...?). So, I'm curious: What's the best way to start (I'm willing to re-learn from scratch) from somewhere in Europe, speaking only English, but willing to try prettymuch anything? Any suggestions on hitching a ride on boats in exchange for helping out a bit, or a good place to learn, someone willing to put me in contact with a friend, ...etc? Just curious.
Anywho, back to the packing. Happy and safe travels!
-Matt
