Hi all.

I dropped by for a good read, liked it here and decided to stay. As of late last year, I'm the proud owner of a Warwick Cardinal 46, Center Cockpit located in Malaysia. When I'm not sailing her, I'm located in the Austrian Alps where I run a software development company specialized in administrative software related to performer's rights.

I've been sailing since 1988 and learned to sail on one of the larger Alpine lakes where I later moved to permanently. I also own a Norwegian-built Yngling for sailing around here. It's a rugged little sailboat that's taught me a lot.

Until I purchased Spirit, my usual cruising grounds have been the Croatian Dalmation Islands, the Balearic Islands and a bit of sailing in Scandinavia (Stockholm Archipelago). The boats I skipper have gotten progressively larger and for the past ten years have been in the 49 to 54 foot range.

Anyway, it's good to be here and I'm looking forward to enjoying many good reads and learning more from all of you and your experiences.

Best regards,

CruisingSpirit

Spirit,

Is Spirit in the Admiralty ? I have communicated with a boat called Spirit a few months ago. The only negative thing about that area is Lightning. Almost every year a few boats get touched by a couple of million volts.

Regards

Richard

Welcoma aboard CruisingSpirit

The Tavern is a very appropriate place to share a drop of spirit!

I hope you get your "many good reads" here and, I suspect, you probably have a few to offer others too.

Thank you for the welcome, Richard.

Spirit was previously registered in the UK Small Ships Registry (SSR) and flew a Red Ensign. That's about as close to the Admiralty as she ever got. Wasn't the Admiralty in charge of the Royal Navy in former times?

The lightning issue is cause for a bit of concern but there is little one can do except try to ground the vessel and hope for the best. Accordingly, I've insured Spirit well and if my instruments get fried, I'll just have to upgrade everything – assuming I didn't get fried as well.

Otherwise, Malaysia and the Andaman Sea are beautiful places to go sailing. I'll be keeping Spirit down there for the next couple of years and will be moving her to Langkawi in July. I'm still getting used to the idea of owning my own yacht and no longer having to charter my boats, with all the surprises that involves...

Fair winds,

Michael

Hi, Nausikaa.

Thank you for the friendly welcome.

Indeed, the Tavern appears to offer a good line of brew, straight from the tap, and it's well chilled to boot!

The next round is on me.

Best regards,

Michael

Hi Mike, I was not clear, my guess was that Spirit was in Admiralty Marina in Port Dickson.

When do you think you will be back in Langkawi ?

Richard

Sorry about the Admiralty, I was a bit slow there... on my first cup of coffee.

Yes, she's currently berthed in the Admiralty Marina in Port Dickson. It's a good place but I want to keep her on the hard when I'm not about. I'm thinking of the Rebak Island Marina. I'd like to have a bit of maintenance work done on her as well and ensure she's properly looked after during by absences. Do you have any suggestions where this would be best undertaken up there?

I'll be flying down to KL on July 16th. and will sail to Langkawi to check out the marinas in the vicinity, as my first priority, as directly as possible.

Who were you in touch with on Spirit? Was it John?
