New To Sailing

My wife and I are just off to do a sailing course in the BVI in two weeks. I am very enthusiastic my wife is a bit cautious. I did a hitch in the RCN in the 70's and am a lot more comfortable at sea but I think she will enjoy it. In our day to day life we are cherry growers in the interior of BC. I have one question about gear and that has to do with shoes. Firstly what recommendations would the old salts have for brands of shoes and any one in the Vancouver area I would appreciate the name of shops to source them.

I have gone through numerous deck shoes, and sandals. The most comfortable for walking, stick like gorilla glue, and longevity was Teva Spider soled sandals....IMHO.....i2f
