New to Sailing and have questions, lots of them. Advise is what I seek.
Hello to all who read,
The biggest question is where to start. I'm in my 30's as well as my wife and we have discuss sailing the world. We both have always lived in a land lock state but have access to very large lakes and rivers. I've been on the water as far back as I can remember with my parents and siblings, Skiing and Fishing. My wife only started boating the last 5 year and loves it. She is finishing her Master of Divinity and look to be an evangelist in our travels.
Our skill set at this moment:
Me: Journeymen Plumber (10 year+)
Certified Open Water Scuba Diver (4 year+)
I have some navigation skill (Commerical Pilot License, not used)
My wife: Respiratory Therapy (10 year +)
The largest vessel we have ever handled together is 22 ft CC stripper boat. We both have been on catamaran in Costa Rica and fell in love with it. My biggest obstacle would be my weight and size, I'm able and strong but after getting hurt on the job I've put on the weight, so comfort while aboard is a concern of ours.
Advice with pros and cons is what we are looking for and your stories on the seas. I'm thinking of 38'-45' monohull, as far as the rigging we have no idea. I plan to get all the ASA certification I need through onboard classes as we get closer to our goals, but we are still having trouble with plunging into this world of sailing, which brings us to this forum.
Thank you for reading this and hope your knowledge and experience can help us make the final leap into our unknown.
