Thumbs up

Hi all,

I was hoping to get some advice on the availability and pricing (and opinions) on self-inflating PFDs in the S.Pacific, where I plan to start my travels.

I am considering buying one since I will be predominantly sailing tallships and bulky PFDs aloft, in my opinion, are sometimes more of danger than a lifesaving device.

Also, does anyone have any advice on buying snorkeling equipment in the region. Is it usually cheaper than Canada?

Thanks,

Flatlander

It depends where in the SPac you will be starting. The only competitive pricing you will find will be NZ or Australia. Average price for manual inflation vest is around NZ$140 New Zealand.

Is that for a Mustang manual inflation vest or comparable model?

I will be in Samoa, Fiji and Tonga initially.

It is for a manual inflation RFD brand. If those three countries are your first ports of call then buy at home. Even if they are available in the islands they will be much more expensive.

Thanks Nightcap, I'll be taking your advice and checking out a dive shop here at home, that a friend owns.

If you're going to be going aloft, I think you should also bring your own safety harness. There are several, including harness Plus PFD, such as SOSpenders or Mustang, but for going aloft I would think a separate harness would be better.
