I am thinking about building a small marina in the area of Punta Gorda, Belize. However, I am having difficulty in finding anyone who has actually sailed the area well. It seems that everyone goes to the barrier reef, Amberguis Caye, or skips on down to the Rio Dulce area of Guatemala. My specific interest is the mouth of rivers near Punta Gorda and how much depth one encounters and for how far up each river. Local coastal maps are vague. The locals wanting to sell me land insure me that the Mojo River and Deep River both would be good places for a marina. Before I sail there myself and get stuck on a river sand bar at the mouth of either of these rivers, I'd sure like any advance advise for this area that anyone would care to share.

The topic heading should read "NEAR" Punta Gorda. Oops.
