Our boat was built for by Alexander White Moffat (Sandy Moffat), an early member of, and multi-year commodore, of the Cruising Club of America. Sandy was very instrumental in the CCA's guidance on offshore yachts. After buying our boat, we continue to pull together any information we can find about her original owner. I have an old Yachting article that he wrote about our boat and her performance.

In the article, he shared the following three tenets for building an offshore yacht:

1. The best is none too good;

2. the most expensive is generally the cheapest in the end;

3. and if you are going to sea and going in safety you’ve got to be particular.

We read the article and chuckled that we would have really liked Sandy or "Skipper" as he was know to friends and family. We believe he had it "right on" when it comes to preparing for voyaging.

We've posted this on our blog, but I don't think I'd shared this quote here on CL.
