Welcome to Cruiser Log. We hope you find the cruising forums useful.
Regarding the purchase of a boat--generally people in a hurry don't find good deals. Of course that is a very broad statement to make. There are always exceptions. I would suggest that you visit Yachtworld online and contact brokers who are listing boats of interest to you. Finding a broker local to you who can help you understand the current world market for cruising boats would be a good idea as well.
Distressed sales (repos, etc) are out there--you just need to find one via a broker, marina, or word of mouth. If you sail, tell everyone you know about your desire to find such a boat. If you do NOT already sail and have contacts in the sailing world, I would heavily suggest that you NOT be in a hurry--take your time and find a good boat.
Our moderator, JeanneP, purchased a boat that had been in charter service. She will likely come post here at some point. However, I recall that she states those charter boats are used very hard and may not be in as good of shape as one would like to have for a cruising boat. Beware.
Enjoy the forums,
Fair winds,
