Just found this place and thought I'd start the New Year by meeting some new people.

I travel around the world regularly for work maybe I'll meet a few of you in the process and we can have a few drinks.

Hey, where'd you come from? Just got online and saw your posts Welcome! My husband's a former F-14 pilot--what did Sali fly for the Navy? Your avatar, I must say, looks like Wednesday night at the Miramar O'club in the late 70's or an Olongapo bar girl...

Where are you guys now? And, are your traveling on your boat around the world or traveling otherwise for work?

Again, welcome aboard. BTW, there are many people who "look" but aren't logged in as members so, of course, don't post.

Fair winds,

Brenda

Welcome aboard Bill and Sali - good to have you here.

You must remember that we are a VERY international crew here and I for one was fast asleep when you posted.

Hope to hear all about your "travels".

Make yourself at home - grab a beer, they are on "redbopeep" all day today.

Hi Brenda

Sali flew A4s primarily then some other stuff before she quit flying. I am traveling by Continental these days. I haven't been back to Olongapo in a while but I was stationed there for a few years in mid 80s.

Today I am in the Florida Keys where I work when I am in the US.

Things haven't changed much from when I was on active duty I'm just staying in better hotels.

I think my post is what happens when I have beer in hand, or several and then I am on the computer and.....nothing good comes of that.

I am somewhat international myself right now. I am visiting on average 8-10 countries a year right now working on the water. I have been able to meet in person a lot of sailors I have met initially online.

I was looking a good and friendly sailing forum I think I found it.

Grab what beer you can today because "redbopeep" doesn't offer free beer too often.

Yea, only when a home-brew batch is ready for the the guinea pigs..ah...company to try

Dave flew A-4's (flight instructor) in the 80's. Kingsville. btw.

Do you remember the 10 cent pancakes at the Cubi-O-Club in the mid-80's? I was floored, 10 cents a pancake and 25 cents for fruit for breakfast with a view of the monkeys outside.

She was the first woman in VC22. I am sure they must know each other.

I remember everything,...ahem... in Subic being inexpensive.

I spent most time there leading bible study of course and praying with the uh local girls and stuff like that.

And golf. I played some golf and things.

How did you spend your free time?

What years were you there?

David was there for 3 months on a beach detachment from the Connie in 1987 and I visited for 6 weeks while he was there. Met some folks with local squadrons but don't remember any of them...

I just asked David what's VC22 and he said, "oh, risky job, towing targets for people shoot at..." Yikes!

We really just hung out with folks from the Connie and don't recall "where" just that it was a good time. Only person that we can recall that was stationed there was a nutty guy by the name of Rich Mauer aka "Splash". He flew S-3's and T-39's. We happened to meet him again later otherwise wouldn't have remembered him at all.

Fair Winds.

I think she was in VT22 in Texas not VC like I originally said. I just have CRS from being hit in the head one too many times.

Sali does know who Splash is. Small community.

I was in Va Beach when a Navy plane cut his towline and target over town and layed down a few thousand feet of wire over the north end. That was exciting.

Ah, A-4's in Texas as a flight instructor? In Kingsville per chance? That's where we saw Splash again. Does she know the "Splash story?" I laughed so hard when I heard about the incident and how he got his call sign. Not really funny for the other aviator involved, but hey...sometimes you laugh at about anything.

I'll have to get her involved in this conversation next time we are together. I am in the Keys working and she is home in Virginia taking care of house, kids and horses.
