Back in the 80s Peter and I considered taking sv Watermelon up the Orinoco River. It looked to be a fascinating trip. Before diong it, we took an inland trip of Venezuela and from what we saw of the Orinoco further upstream, we had our doubts that it would be a comfortable trip, so we let other trips take precedence, and never got there. We've wondered ever since , "what if?"

I just came across this free download of a book by a Frenchman and his wife about their trip up the Orinoco to connect to the Amazon. Looks fascinating.

I'm not sure why he's decided to offer it as a free download, but it will ensure that it remains available to those interested in this part of South America.

Lovely book, written in a very gentle style. I printed it yesterday evening and read half of it by bedtime.

Having sailed a couple of hundred miles up the Orinoco in the mid-seventies, I find this book particularly interesting. I got as far as Puerto Ordaz before heading back seawards.

Thanks for the link Jeanne.
