Owning a live aboard Junk in S.E. Asia
G’day.
I have given up on finding the right vessel in Aus and now I ‘m going to look at buying a traditional built Junk in Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines or having one built.
The way I see it this is a better deal by a long chalk, buying something here is too expensive the maintenance costs are over the top, for electrician or mechanic work you need to be a millionaire, Marina charges is a scam and as for the rest it’s like standing in the shower and ripping up $100 notes.
I don’t need or want all the high tech gear or creature comforts, just the basics, so as far as a descent Junk in S.E. Asia with a crew and cook and the best sightseeing in the world at the cost of a new 4x4 in Aus it’s got to be a winner.
I only want to cruise for six months a year and spend the summers at home, I just need to find a local over there that can look after the boat and can earn a living with it while I’m home.
It’s getting easier to get a retirement visa over there now and let’s face it, more and more Aussies are already over there living it up like a prince on half their pension.
That’s the plan, so if there is anyone here that has any ideas, advice or opinions I would like to hear them.
