Is it okay to leave solar panels dis-connected for any length of time in the sun?

To Life!

Kirk

Hi Kirk,

Connected/dis-connected = same/same - eventually cooked until well done.

( best to cover with white sunbrella when dis-connected for a long time - eg winterised )

I contacted the company that supplid my panels as they seemed very switched on about the products. I didn't have an answer myself. Their answer was that they should always be connected to a battery using a regulator in daylight. A 'short period' would no harm. His version of a short period is a couple of hours with enough sunshine to give maximum voltage. His explanation is that if exposed for longer periods with no load on the panel then the panel will loose some efficiency.

Hope that helps Kirk.

Regards

Peter
