Hello,
a big refit ahead of us. Where is a good place to shop in Singapore?
Cordage
Teak (mahagony)
General stuff, Westmarine?
We are staying now in Raffles Marina and for Westmarine stock they ask 2xWestmarine price + 7% tax (in Sing dollars). Are there better deals?
Thanks a lot
Petr

Have you found Marintech Marketing? 101 Kitchener Road, #02-14 Jalan Besar Plaza. Tel: 62988171
Jessie Lee is very good, and her prices were usually only about 10% over West Marine's prices.
If you want curtains, cushions, etc. done, you should go across the causeway to Johor Bahru, Malaysia where you can find everything much cheaper! There are some very good fabric stores not far outside the center of the city. A Singaporean cushion/mattress maker told us that it was much cheaper to get the work done in Malaysia, and any fabric or other materials used to make the stuff in Singapore came from Malaysia anyway, so we weren't getting better quality by having the work done in Singapore.
We found that Phuket, Thailand was also an excellent place to have cushion/fabric work done.

JeanneP,
thanks for the tips. I have Marinetech on my list. Not in Singapore now, going soon,we so want to make sure that we will know where to go.
I think I've spotted your boat in Raffles when we were inspecting "potentially ours", just couldn't realize why the name sounded so familiar

Our beloved Watermelon is now owned by a German fellow and his Thai (? - not sure now) wife. And yes, it's in Raffles. I just received a photo of it from Fred, an old friend who is again sailing on a boat named Fenix. He's probably in Malaysia or Thailand by now. If you catch up to Fenix, say hello for me, he's a nice guy. He's one of the few people I've met who loves Crostics - a word game - as much as me.
I miss SE Asia. Enjoy.

Dear All,
Maybe you can add another company in your lists of chandler. If i did not remember wrongly, it should be AQUA INTERNATIONAL P.....It is along the road called Jalan Besar (the street of hardware) in Singapore. Thy have got a really wide range of products and most importantly , their staffs are the most welcoming dudes i met during my 6 days stay in Singapore.
The information that i got is TEL: (65) 6299 1944 , and their email: aquaintl@pacific.net.sg
Hope this information may help.
Will be back to enjoy the fun in S.E asia with my familly.
Regards

Another resource I forgot: Singapore's Green Book. It's a directory of Singapore industries, and we used it to find a supplier for solar panels, and many other things. A bit like AT&T's Yellow Pages, or even more appropriate, the Thomas Catalog
