Some reports use the term "beached", others say "washed ashore", but none are directly quoting marine experts or authorative sources, so the story is still unclear.
Some extracts from news sources:
"The sailors said they had struck bad weather on their voyage to Brisbane ."
"The southern area of the Queensland is being lashed by huge seas and high winds whipped up from a low moving slowly north."
"Their anchor didn't hold when they were around near Double Island Point and they drifted and the wind blew them down to where they were at Inskip Point."
Another source (apparently relying on 2nd hand sources, taking a negative tone and not sounding reliable):
"By the early hours of yesterday, however, the 16-year-old gaff-rigged schooner had shredded sails, a disabled engine, a broken rudder and flailing anchors as the storm shoved it into the sand on Inskip Point. "
The Australian Navy says the boat does not appear to have suffered any hull damage, and they are confident it can be refloated within a day or two.
