thanks haiku. Actually, anchorages currently represent about 30% of the database, and it's the fastest growing component. For instance, we have just added about 300 anchorage, moorings and typhoon holes
in the Philippines in the last couple of days, thanks to the contribution of a local cruiser.
You can download the whole world database in gpx format from the site and import it into OpenCPN but, as you say, that gets pretty unwieldy. Most users prefer to right click in OpenCPN and download the local sector(s) (about 5x5 degrees each). That corresponds to no more that a few tens of destinations, and the sector file is 40-5KBytes in average, so it works OK even with crummy cellular connection, or even a sat phone. Once downloaded, the destination info is cached locally and viewable in the WayPoint dialog of OpenCPN, so you don't need Internet connectivity for cruse planning purposes. We could think even about including some of the CruisersWiki data ( description,contact info ?) in the cached file, if that's useful.
