Default OpenCPN 4.0 about to be released

OpenCPN version 4.0 is about to be released with many new bug fixes.

This is from the release team:

--

OpenCPN 3.3.2430 aka OpenCPN 4.0 Release Candidate 1 is out.

This version brings completely updated documentation and the last batch of fixes and small changes before OpenCPN 4.0 is released as stable, our list is literally empty.

Please point out all the outstanding problems you observe as soon as possible so they don't slip into the final release.

OpenCPN 3.3.2430 is available for immediate download from Download OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Read the full release notes and give us feedback at http://www.cruisersforum.com/…/opencpn-release-candidate-3-…

In case you haven't also been following the OpenCPN forums, there are a bunch of new plugins available and updates to existing plugins.

This includes things like the ability to read encrypted S63 chart data, available (for purchase) from many official charting agencies world-wide.

There is also a new version of the Logbook plugin with many fixes and new features on the plugins download page.

Thanks for the update, Del. We took openCPN off both computers b/c we'd not updated the program in so long and were tired of bugs. We're behind! and happy to try out the latest Open CPN again.

I used OpenCPN 3.2 exclusively on my trip from Newcastle via NZ and the southern ocean. I encountered a few bugs all of which I am happy to say have been fixed in the latest betas (the main one was that periodically the whole program would crash losing logbook entries). The logbook is as good as keeping a manual one now and much easier -- all of the variables like wind speed & direction, heading, etc, all get entered automatically into the log from the NMEA feeds.

Let's hope the 4.0 release keeps up the good work. There are lots of new plugins now, even one for celestial navigation (in case you have a computer and a sextant but no GPS).

Just installed 4.0.0. stable release. The OpenGL version is so slow as to be unusable on XP SP3 but the native version works just fine. Thanks guys, good work there.
